Over 2000 Locals to benefit from free eye screening, surgery camp in serere

The Member of Parliament for Pingire County Hon. Fred Opolot in partnership with the Northern Indian Association in Uganda (NICA) are set to hold the 69th free eye screening camp and 19th cataract surgery in serere HCIV.

According to Gulshan Ram the Indian Association chairperson in Uganda, NICA is expecting to handle over 2000 people with free eye screening and over 100 cataract surgeries for the those in serere and the neighbouring districts between Fridays 4th to 6th November 2022 at serere health centre 4.

Gulshan added that NICA is an initiative aimed at helping the under privileged people of Uganda who cannot afford basic eye care like spectacles, surgery, and medicine among others.

“We are estimating a tentative budget of 180m ugx to be spent for the whole activity of these camps,” he said.

In association with the ministry of health, the eye camp is sponsored by eye EYE CAMP AFRICA CHARITY UK and supported by SSDM TEMPLE, Dr eye Agarwal hospital, Dr ssali and team.

The association has so far out 67 free eye camps, scanned 29192 patients distributed 10,931 free spectacles, given 11791 treatments (medicine) up to 18th surgery camp we carried out 1463 free cataract surgeries, 03 free cornea transplants.

Meanwhile Fred Opolot who is the chairperson parliamentary forum for the Indian communities in Uganda appreciated the intervention of Indians specifically the north Indian association for accepting to come in and save lives of poor Ugandans.

Opolot also said a lot of work will involve the church leaders, vht’s and the media in mobilising the communities to ensure that the targeted people benefit from this program.
