The construction of the Kitgum, Karenga to Kidepo National Game Park road is set to commence in the Financial Year 2023/2024.
This was revealed in the floor of Parliament yesterday by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja while responding to the concerns raised by the Kitgum woman Member of Parliament over the poor condition of the road.
According to Hon. Dr. Lillian Aber, the state of the road which is used by most tourists to Kidepo game park is in a very sorry state and is affecting the mobility of both the people within the district and its neighbours.
Aber revealed that the road in question was budgeted for and the contractor for the project already contracted to begin works but nothing is happening.
“Honorable speaker the state of that road is really worrying, our people can hardly travel to the next Sub County within the district and this road was budgeted for because there is a contractor who was already given the contract to work on the road. I would like to know when the works will commence on that road so that people can move comfortably, “Aber asked.
While responding to Dr. Aber’s concerns, the Prime Minister said the issue of the Kitgum -Karenga road was a priority during last week’s cabinet sitting.
“Speaker I want to assure her that this road is a priority road and we are going to work on it this financial year 2023/2024,” Nabbanja said.
The government plans to upgrade the 115 Kilometres stretch of road from Kitgum Municipality via Orom Sub-County connecting to Karenga District from gravel to Paved (Bitumen) standard.
