The 50 large white pigs worth 15million shs were handed by Charles Ekelot to the beneficiaries on Thursday in the presence of John Stephen Ekoom the Ngora district resident district commissioner.

The beneficiaries could not hide their joy thanking Juliet Achayo Lodou the Ngora county member of parliament for the support and saying that it will make them struggle with poverty that has gone deeper into their households.

Sarah Asio of Kobuin village said her group has only saved shs.300,000 which could only make them buy one improved sow.

However, in her message to beneficiaries delivered by her husband Charles Ekelot, Achayo said people should always select enterprises within their means as president Museveni emphasises for communities to engage in poultry, commercial farming and piggery for non Muslims if they are to come out poverty bondage.

Jubilant beneficiaries show their happiness

Ekelot said Achayo had gone to South Africa on assignment and asked him to deliver the pigs.

“As a family we are doing this because whenever we watch and listen to Museveni giving tips on how Ugandans should drop traditional peasant farming, we agreed to establish pilot projects in the villages for people to benefit and stop being beggars”,Ekelot said.

Ekelot said just like the poultry in which shs. 600m was injected, even piggery launching is from Kobuin and will be rolled out to other sub counties as well.

“These large white sows give a litter of ten twice a year and even if you sold each piglet at shs. 100,000 the group will get shs.10 million”, Ekellot said.

“Am happy all my ten parishes have benefited and am going to monitor and see then select the best for recognition being a requirement by Achayo”, Dancan Musene chairperson LC3 said.

John Stephen Ekoom the Ngora resident district commissioner who presided over the give away ceremony thanked the locals for voting wisely and asked them to do the same in 2026 for Achayo.

” Following the manner am seeing projects flowing here you are going to middle income status and you don’t regret your votes. There constituencies that MPs no longer even pick calls from their agents ,so count yourselves lucky”, Ekoom said.
