The State House Anti-corruption Court on Thursday arrested six officials from Gulu City
Council technocrats on charges of embezzlement of Public funds.
The six include Denis Okot the Chief Finance Officer, George Odokonyero the City
Accounting Officer, George Kidega the former Acting CFO, Denis Okwera an Accounting
Officer, Bosco Otem the Treasurer of Laroo-Pece and his assistant Mark Ocen.
Emmanuel Bunya, the Communication Officer at State House anti-Corruption Unit confirmed
this report saying that the suspects are currently being held at Gulu Central Police station awaiting to be taken to Court.
The officials have been charged with theft, obtaining money by false pretense, forgery,
uttering false documents and conspiracy to commit Felony with other suspects who are still
at large.
Bunya revealed that the suspects illegally collected local revenue from contractors which
was not remitted to the the city authority.
They allegedly collected money from Gulu City Abattoir, City Street Parking, loading and
offloading fees.
Some of the Constructors include; Luwa General Traders, Gulu City Livestock Cooperative
savings and Credit limited among others.
“They would demand money from local contractors through issuing fake receipts avoiding the normal process of Integrated Revenue System.[IRS]’’ said Bunya.
The suspects made Gulu and government lose over 200 million shillings and they are currently detained at Gulu Central Police station.
