66 GRADUATE FROM GULU DISABLED PERSONS UNION TRAINING CENTER

Fourteen of the youths graduated with skills in motorcycle repair and maintenance, 12 in hairdressing, 11 in tailoring, 11 in knitting and weavings, 10 in decoration and design, and eight electronic repair and maintenance.

Farouk Musema, the Principle of the Gulu Disabled Persons Union Training Centre, said that out of the 68 PWDs enrolled for the six months’ skills training program, only two missed graduations because they failed final assessment tests.

Musema explained that the six months’ skills training program which started in January to July 2022 was part of last year’s program executed with sh320m funding support from Enhancing the capacity of PWDs -ETC and UK- AID.

Robinson Oboth, the senior inspector of school in Gulu district, reminded the parents and guardians of PWDs that they have a big role to play because acquiring skills they are still not capable of doing everything on their own.

Monica Piloya, the vice Board chair of GDPU on behalf of Geoffrey Ali the board chair, asked the grandaunts to go and put the knowledge learnt into proper use to become self-reliant.

Linda Lakisa, who graduated in the knitting and weaving textiles, revealed that she was excited about the course and believed the graduation would be a turning point in her life as she never thought of completing the six months’ course.

Brenda Akello, a graduate in the decoration and design course, said she is extremely happy because she is sure the skills acquired will positively shape her future.

This is the fourth graduation ceremony to pass out successfully trained youths from Gulu Disabled Persons Union Training centre since 2013, with a total of four hundred persons with disabilities graduating in various disciplines.
